CyanogenMod is an alternative firmware (not official) that still uses the Android operating system as a framework, but offers better features and is not found in the official firmware. CyanogenMod is also intended to improve performance (tweaks) and reliability (performance) than the official firmware removed the device vendor.

In terms of performance can be compared through benchmark tests (quadrant / Antutu), which CyanogenMod superior to the original firmware. While in terms of performance CyanogenMod among others provide a more varied selection of themes, codec for FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec), OpenVPN client, a reboot menu, support CPU overclocking, the more responsive touch screen, toggleswitch can be arranged, as well as an increase in interfaces and display.

CyanogenMod is the work of many developers that are opensource. But still the official Android-based Google Inc.. which runs alongside the original code official and code from third parties. Though only as an alternative firmware, CyanogenMod users continues to increase. Reported up to 30 November 2011 there were more than 850,000 were installed on his device.

History and development

Shortly after the introduction of the HTC Dream (also known as "T-Mobile G1" in the United States) in September 2008, found the "root" Android Linux-based subsystems. By having root access, enabling firmware-locked phone with the operator T-Mobile, can be re-installed and modified ..

The next year, the HTC Dream firmware modifications continue to be developed and distributed by Android fans. Among them are a developer named Jesus Freke, which quickly became popular. In August, 2009, JesusFreke stopped making firmware page. and advised users to switch to his rom version is more advanced than the developer cyanogen (Steve Kondik) called "CyanogenMod".
CyanogenMod rapidly evolving, through the contribution of the small community known as CyanogenMod Team. Within a few months, the number of devices and features supported by CyanogenMod continues to grow. And Cyanogen to be one of the unofficial firmware distribution Andorid most popular.

CyanogenMod 6
Steve Kondik released CyanogenMod 6 is based on Android 2.2 Froyo, to Nexus One Dream, Magic, Droid, Aria, Legend, Desire, Evo 4G, Hero, Wildfire, Incredible and myTouch 3G Slide. CM version 6 release candidat be available on July 11, 2010, while the final version was released on August 28, 2010.

CyanogenMod 7

CyanogenMod 7 based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with customization developed by the CyanogenMod team. Remains the core of the CyanogenMod written by Steve Kondik, but the contribution of the developers involved in the xda-developers community.
CM 7 development began when Google released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread on February 15, 2011. Some version of CM 7 release candidat rolled with bug fixes and support for more devices brands. CM 7.0 public version was released on 11 April 2011 based on Android 2.3.3, followed CM 7.1 based on Android 2.3.7.
Among the developers who successfully porting CM 7.1 on the Samsung Galaxy Mini is a Master TJ Style, while the CM terahir Version 7.2 successfully ported to the Galaxy Mini by Master Squadzone. For that thank you profusely at TJ Style Master and Squadzone ..

CyanogenMod 8
CyanogenMod 8 was originally planned for ported on Android 3 Honeycomb. But apparently Google does not give you the source code for Honeycomb. It seems that Google does not give up firmware Android Tablet given to third parties.

CyanogenMod 9
The next version, which is based on CyanogenMod 9 Ice Cream Sandwich Andorid 4. Steve Kondik and his team announced that they have started working after the Google gives Android 4.0.1 source code. In late November 2011, several alpha and beta versions have been distributed specifically for mobile phones Moto Droid, Nexus S and Galaxy S.

CM9 for Galaxy Mini
CM9 ported framework should use the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy Mini has confirmed that it does not include that will receive ICS. It is a challenge early developers, especially Master Squadzone who have successfully porting CM9 through Gingerbread (GB).
Why this could be done? ... apparently because there are similarities between ICS and GB framework. It's just that it takes a lot of adjustment because Google has changed the frame on ICS Android compatibility disturbing the old drivers.

This challenge makes developers more motivated spirit, as submitted by the CyanogenMod Team .. "we believe in good cooperation, the team will be able to resolve this issue as we've experienced in the past .."
Proved to be a challenge this can be answered by Master Squadzone that after going through hard times through the alpha and beta versions, has now reached a fairly rapid progress ...
